[Watch] Washington Sundar removes Daryl Mitchell to claim his 10th wicket of the match during IND vs NZ second Test 2024

Off-spinner Washington Sundar continued to excel with the ball as he dismissed Daryl Mitchell, claiming his 10th wicket of the match on Day 2 of the India vs New Zealand second Test on Friday, October 25. The game is being played at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.

The dismissal happened on the second ball of the 30th over. Mitchell stepped down the pitch, aiming to hit the ball out of the park. However, he mistimed it and went straight to long-on, where Yashasvi Jaiswal made an easy grab.

This was Washington Sundar’s third wicket of the second innings and 10th overall. The 25-year-old achieved his career-best figures in the first innings, taking seven wickets for 59 runs.

Daryl Mitchell scored 18 runs off 23 balls, hitting two boundaries. His dismissal left New Zealand at 123 for four after 29.2 overs.


New Zealand's lead surpasses 250 in the second Test against India

After posting 259 runs in their first innings, highlighted by half-centuries from Devon Conway (76) and Rachin Ravindra (65), the New Zealand bowlers delivered a strong performance.

The Blackcaps dismissed the hosts for just 156 runs, with Ravindra Jadeja top-scoring at 38. Mitchell Santner stood out with the ball, taking seven wickets for 53 runs. Glenn Phillips picked up two wickets, while Tim Southee chipped in with one.

In response, the Kiwis have looked solid, with Tom Latham leading the charge. Conway contributed 17 runs, while Will Young added 23 runs off 28 balls. Ravindra was dismissed for nine by Washington Sundar. Rishabh Pant dropped a catch, giving Latham a reprieve at 49, after which the opener looked impressive.

At the time of writing, the Blackcaps were 177/4 after 42 overs, enjoying a lead of 280 runs, with Latham (84) and Tom Blundell (21) at the crease.
