No clarity over MS Dhoni's availability for IPL 2025: Reports
Meanwhile, there is still no clarity over whether Dhoni will be available for the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League. As per a report in The Indian Express, the former CSK captain has neither confirmed his decision to play in the upcoming IPL nor ruled himself out.
“We are yet to hear from him. Once the BCCI makes a formal decision on the number of retentions, we will have a clear picture,” sources in the franchise told The Indian Express.
As per a number of media reports, the BCCI is set to allow five retentions per franchise ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. In such a scenario, Dhoni could be retained as the fifth player by Chennai Super Kings if he commits to play the upcoming season of the T20 league.
Under the 43-year-old, CSK won the IPL for a record-equaling fifth time in the 2023 season. The veteran cricketer, though, stepped down from captaincy ahead of the 2024 season, handing over the reins to opener Ruturaj Gaikwad. Playing as a lower-order keeper-batter under Gaikwad, Dhoni contributed 161 runs at an impressive strike rate of 220.55 in IPL 2024.
