[Watch] When Virat Kohli sledged back West Indies' Kesrick Williams with his bat and celebrations
The cricketing fraternity knows what happens when one provokes Virat Kohli. The ace Indian batter is always up for a dialogue with his energetic on-field persona.
So when India was facing West Indies at home in a three-match T20I series in 2019, it was a short turnaround for Kohli and his men from the whites to the blues of Team India. Bowling first in Hyderabad, Team India had conceded 207-5 in 20 overs with Shimron Hetmyer starring with a fine half-century.
Team India was in a pickle when they lost their opener and then-vice-captain Rohit Sharma cheaply. KL Rahul (62 off 40) and Virat Kohli stitched together a 100-run partnership. Kohli, who was scratchy to start, later found his groove and went all out against West Indies pacer Kesrick Williams.
In 2017, Williams dismissed Kohli in the only T20I played on that tour, with the bowler celebrating it as if he were noting something in a notebook. On the third ball of the 16th over bowled by Kesrick Williams, Kohli sent one into the stands and celebrated that hit with a proper reply by imitating the bowler's celebration.
Take a look at the video of the same below:
Virat Kohli would face Kesrick Williams again in the game, with Kohli finishing the match off with consecutive maximums. He ended unbeaten with 94 runs off 50 balls, winning the Player of the Match award.
Virat Kohli scored 4,188 runs in T20Is for India
Following India's triumph in the 2024 T20 World Cup, Virat Kohli announced that he would no longer play T20Is and effectively retired from the format internationally. Overall, Kohli played 125 T20Is for Team India and scored 4,188 runs.
The 36-year-old recorded 38 half-centuries to go along with a hundred, which he scored against Afghanistan in 2022.
Kohli also had four wickets in T20Is, with a best of 1/13 against England in 2011.
