[Watch] "Woh bata diya karo" - Indian batter's interesting quip after mix-up with Ravindra Jadeja on Day 3 of BGT 2024-25 4th Test
Indian batters Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja were involved in an ugly mix-up while batting together on Day 3 (Friday, December 27) of the ongoing fourth Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 Test in Melbourne.
The mix-up almost caused another unwanted run-out but the Indians were fortunate enough to not have lost another wicket in a similar fashion this time around. The incident occurred when Jadeja defended a delivery from Australian seamer Scott Boland towards mid-off and immediately set off for a run.
However, the ball had gone straight to the fielder in position and Jadeja was sent back by Pant. Fortunately, he got back to the crease on time and the throw did not hit the stumps either.
Rishabh Pant was heard asking Jadeja to inform him if he wanted to go for the run as a fielder was in place.
"Woh bata diya karo," the Indian wicket-keeper batter was heard saying, pointing towards the fielder.
Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan, who was also commentating at the time, highlighted the need to avoid taking risky singles in Test cricket. He was heard saying that it is not T20 cricket where the batters constantly think about scoring.
The former all-rounder added that the batters need to be careful in Test cricket and a run-out should not be the mode of dismissal in this format.
How a mix-up on day two cost India the wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal
Post the mix-up between Jadeja and Pant on day three, Irfan Pathan, on commentary, also pointed out that it was similar to the mix-up that occurred on Day 2 between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli.
Talking about the incident, Irfan stated that there was no need for a single at that point. He further said that the duo had put up a partnership in excess of 100 runs and Australia were down at the time.
Jaiswal, who was batting on 82, was unfortunately dismissed. Not only did he miss out on a century but the visitors also lost quick wickets after his dismissal, shifting the momentum back in favor of the hosts towards the close of play on the second day.
