[Watch] Yashasvi Jaiswal roars in delight on his century as RR beat MI by 9 wickets in IPL 2024

Yashasvi Jaiswal was pumped up after scoring his second Indian Premier League (IPL) century as Rajasthan Royals (RR) beat Mumbai Indians (MI) by nine wickets at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Monday (April 22). The left-hander took a single to get to his second IPL century, both against MI.

Jaiswal stayed unbeaten on 104 runs off 60 balls in an innings laced with seven sixes and nine boundaries. He also shared 74 and 109* run partnerships with Jos Buttler and captain Sanju Samson for the first two wickets, respectively.

The achievement came in the 19th over of RR's run chase. Tilak Varma bowled a short delivery outside off and Jaiswal cut it towards the sweeper cover and charged down the other end with the bat in one hand and helmet in the other. The youngster was absolutely thrilled as he soaked in the applause from fans and teammates, who rose to celebrate the ton.

With the knock, Jaiswal also returned to form after managing just 121 runs in his last seven innings. The 22-year-old will now look to continue his sublime form as the Royals stay in the fray for their second IPL trophy.

Yashasvi Jaiswal expressed his gratitude to RR team management, including Sanju Samson and Kumar Sangakkara, for backing him despite his failures in the first seven games. He said in the post-match show:

"I really enjoyed from the start and I made sure I was watching the ball properly and playing proper cricketing shots. I’m trying to do what I am doing well, some days it comes good and some days it doesn’t, I’m not thinking much. I want to thank all my seniors the way they have guided me."
"I want to thank the Rajasthan Royals management and especially Sanga sir and Sanju bhai for giving me opportunities. I go out and give my best in the practice sessions and I’m so happy today."

In the match, MI posted 179/9 in 20 overs after choosing to bat first. Tilak Varma and Nehal Wadhera starred with the bat.

Varma scored 65 off 45 deliveries, including three sixes and five boundaries. Wadhera chipped in with 49 off 24 with the help of four sixes and three boundaries. The duo put on a 99-run stand for the fifth wicket to rescue MI from 52/4.

Sandeep Sharma was the pick of RR bowlers, with career-best figures of 5/18, while Trent Boult bagged two wickets.

In response, RR achieved the target with eight balls to spare. Samson and Buttler chipped in with 38*(28) and 35 (25), respectively. Piyush Chawla managed a solitary wicket for MI.
