[Watch] Yashasvi Jaiswal's marathon knock comes to an end at 161 runs in 1st BGT 2024-25 Test in PerthÂ
Team India's opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal's dominating knock in the second innings of the first Border-Gavaskar series Test in Perth against Australia came to an end in the 94th over. The youngster looked set to convert his innings into a double hundred but had to be content with 161 runs off 297 deliveries.
Jaiswal wasted no time in reaching the three-figure mark in the opening moments of the first session of Day 3 (Sunday, November 24). The left-handed batter further showcased his command and penchant for making the most of his starts by reaching the 150-run mark quickly.
While India lost Devdutt Padikkal off the first ball of the second session, Jaiswal looked comfortable at the crease, with Virat Kohli at the other end.
The opener looked to slash Mitchell Marsh's back-of-the-length delivery bowled wide outside the off stump to the point region. He connected well but found Steve Smith at backward point. Jaiswal stood in disbelief as his innings ended, as he was still looking in supreme touch out in the middle.
Have a look at the dismissal right here:
Jaiswal was involved in a record 201-run stand with KL Rahul (77) before the latter's dismissal by Mitchell Starc in the first session. The youngster's knock included 15 fours and three sixes, justifying the Australian media's label of 'The New King' in the build-up to the series.
Team India look to capitalise on the platform set by Yashasvi Jaiswal
The visitors' score read 313-3 after the centurion's dismissal, with an imperious lead of 359 runs. With the pitch still not showing any demons that are difficult to deal with and the threat of the new ball largely countered, the rest of the batters have the task of taking the lead to a level beyond Australia's reach.
At the time of writing, India were placed at 321-4 after 96 overs after Rishabh Pant was dismissed for just one run by Nathan Lyon, courtesy of a smart stumping by Alex Carey.
