Melbourne Stars Women’s batter Yastika Bhatia scored her maiden fifty against Hobart Hurricanes Women during the 12th Women’s Big Bash League 2024 match. The game took place on Sunday, November 3, at Junction Oval in Melbourne.
Yastika reached her milestone on the fourth ball of the 12th over. Nicola Carey bowled a full delivery outside off, and Yastika sent it sailing over point for a boundary, completing her half-century off just 41 balls.

Chasing a target of 134, the Stars lost opener Ines McKeon early for just six runs. Yastika Bhatia and Meg Lanning added 64 runs off 46 balls for the second wicket before the latter was dismissed for 27. Yastika finished with 57 runs off 46 balls, including seven boundaries and one six.
Annabel Sutherland (26* off 20) and Marizanne Kapp (15* off 11) put together an unbeaten partnership of 37 runs for the fourth wicket, guiding Melbourne to victory. The hosts won the match by seven wickets with 13 balls to spare.
A brilliant bowling effort helps Melbourne restrict Hobart Hurricanes to a low total
Hobart Hurricanes won the toss and opted to bat first, but they got off to a shaky start, losing both openers, Lizelle Lee (4) and Danielle Wyatt-Hodge (4), in the first two overs. Captain Elyse Villani (11) and Heather Graham (8) also failed to contribute significantly.
Nicola Carey and Chloe Tryon put together 66 runs off 55 balls for the fifth wicket to stabilize the innings. Carey finished with 44 runs off 43 balls, including two fours and a six, while Tryon added 35 runs off 33 balls, featuring one four and one six.
The Hurricanes concluded their innings at 133 for seven. Marizanne Kapp and Kim Garth took two wickets each, while Tess Flintoff, Deepti Sharma, and Sophie Day each claimed one.
