"Yorker pe yorker de raha hai" - Virat Kohli's hilarious conversation with Shakib Al Hasan in IND vs BAN 2024 1st Test

Virat Kohli's hilarious chat with Shakib Al Hasan on Day 2 of the India vs Bangladesh first Test went viral on Friday (September 20) evening. The incident happened during the last session of the day of the ongoing fixture at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

The stump-mic caught the conversation between the veteran cricketers, and was aired live during the broadcast. Kohli told Shakib (via News18):

"Malinga bana hua hai, yorker pe yorker de raha hai."

It's unclear who Kohli was referring to; whether his comment was for Shakib or Mehidy Hasan, who was bowling fuller balls to him and Shubman Gill.

Legendary Sri Lankan pacer Lasith Malinga was a yorker specialist during his playing days. His searing as well as slower dipping yorker was another deadly weapon in his arsenal, which many have tried to emulate since then.

Interestingly, Virat Kohli was trapped LBW by a fuller ball from Mehidy in the 20th over, and made his way back to the hut for 17 off 37. However, ultra-edge later confirmed a spike, when the ball went past the bat before ruffling the pads, indicating an inside edge, but Kohli had refused to take DRS.

India in the ascendancy after Day 2 in IND vs BAN 1st Test

The Indian team could add only 37 runs to their overnight total at the start of Day 2, as they were dismissed for 376. Ravichandran Ashwin emerged as the top-scorer for the side with his imperious knock of 113. Hasan Mahmud was the pick of the bowlers with a fifer for the visitors.

In response, Bangladesh were blown away by a sensational bowling performance from Indian pacers. They were bundled out for 149, with Jasprit Bumrah picking up four wickets.

At the end of Day 2's play, India are at 81/3 with Shubman Gill (33*) and Rishabh Pant (12*) at the crease. The hosts now have a sizeable lead of 308 runs and will look to build on it tomorrow to take the game away from Bangladesh.
