[Watch] Young South Africa fan signals for DRS after Ryan Rickelton is adjudged lbw, reacts ecstatically after decision is overturned
South Africa opener Ryan Rickelton was wrongly adjudged lbw off pacer Vishwa Fernando during South Africa's first innings of the ongoing second Test against Sri Lanka at Gqeberha. The incident came on the second day of the Test (December 6), and on the fourth delivery of the 79th over of the Proteas innings.
Fernando bowled a fullish delivery that nipped back into Ryan Rickelton. The bowler appealed straightaway and ran in celebration as umpire Joel Wilson raised his finger. Rickelton, although thinking he was out, made the call to challenge the decision.
At the same time, a young boy in the crowd almost immediately signaled for the DRS to be taken and the decision to be reviewed. Ultimately, the ultra-edge showed a slight spike when the ball passed the bat. While Ryan Rickelton was unaware of the faint edge, his call to review the decision turned out to be right as it was overturned and the left-hander survived.
As umpire Joel Wilson signalled the reversal of the decision on the field, the young boy in the crowd was ecstatic. He was seen in utmost joy, clapping his hands and cheering as the decision was overturned, which turned out to be a priceless reaction.
Rickelton was batting at 98 when the incident happened. Here's the video:
