Notably, the duo won the 2000 Under-19 World Cup together. They also played together for the Men in Blue, including a match-winning knock in the 2002 Natwest Trophy final against England.
While Kaif didn't last long in international cricket, Yuvraj played a big role in helping India lift the 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup trophies.
"In those days if you got 325, you are the strong, strong favorites" - When Nich Knight recalled Mohammad Kaif and Yuvraj Singh's heroics in the 2002 Natwest Trophy Final
Former England player Nick Knight recalled how Mohammad Kaif and Yuvraj Singh helped India win the game from the jaws of defeat in the 2002 Natwest Trophy Final. He told cricket.com (via NDTV):
"I knew we were playing against a good side with extremely good players but in those days if you got 325, you are the strong, strong favorites."
He added:
"When the partnership began to unfold you started thinking that these are really good players. Yuvraj was just smashing it leg side and over long-on. But what Kaif did affected me a little bit, a deep point because a fielder there think he just got to stop the boundary but what he was so good at was hitting the half-length balls and makes you think that you got to come in and stop those twos and threes. They ran us ragging."
"That partnership was filled with ones, twos and threes. It was one of the best partnerships that I can remember playing the game," he added.
Yuvraj Singh and Mohammad Kaif put on a 121-run partnership after the tourists were reduced to 146-5. Kaif stayed unbeaten on 87 off 75 balls, while Yuvraj scored 69 off 63.
