[Watch] Yuzvendra Chahal claims a 5-wicket haul for Northamptonshire against Derbyshire in County Championship Division Two 2024

Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal stole the show with his bowling exploits in the ongoing County Championship Division Two match between Northamptonshire and Derbyshire. He emerged as the pick of the bowlers in the first innings for Northamptonshire, bagging a stunning five-wicket haul.

After electing to bat first, Northamptonshire were bowled out for just 219 and needed to come up with an impressive bowling effort following their underwhelming batting performance.

Chahal ran through Derbyshire's batting lineup, registering figures of 16.3-2-45-5. It was his third five-wicket haul in first-class cricket. The 34-year-old claimed the wickets of Aneurin Donald, Zak Chappell, Alex Thomson, and Wayne Madsen.

Yuzvendra Chahal's fantastic bowling exploits helped Northamptonshire bundle out Derbyshire for 165. It is worth mentioning that that crafty spinner also picked up a five-wicket haul in his solitary appearance in the One Day Cup 2024, recording figures of 10-5-14-5 in Northamptonshire's final group-stage fixture against Kent.

Yuzvendra Chahal lost his place in the Indian team following the 2024 T20 World Cup

Yuzvendra Chahal returned to India's T20I team earlier this year after being named in the 15-member squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup. The Men in Blue beat South Africa by seven runs in the final to clinch the coveted trophy.

However, Chahal didn't feature in India's playing XI even once and was benched throughout the tournament. He also lost his place in the side following the showpiece event, not finding a place in the five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe and the subsequent Sri Lanka tour.

Despite being India's leading wicket-taker in T20Is, Chahal has yet to play a T20 World Cup game. The spinner has 96 wickets to his name from 79 innings at an economy rate of 8.19.

Chahal last played for India in August last year, finishing with dismal figures of 4-0-51-0 against West Indies. He had a good Indian Premier League (IPL) season this year, where he picked up 18 wickets from 15 outings for Rajasthan Royals (RR).
