"We need someone to translate the language" - Naseem Shah cites communication barriers with foreign coaches

Pakistan fast bowler Naseem Shah has cited the problem of language and communicating effectively with foreign coaches. The youngster's comment comes as Jason Gillespie gears up to start his tenure as the national team's red-ball coach.

The men's team currently have ex-Proteas batter Gary Kirsten as the white-ball coach and former Aussie speedster Gillespie in the longest format. With Kirsten having the experience and pedigree, the PCB appointed him to rebuild the side after their 2023 World Cup loss. Gillespie also has a vast experience as a coach.

Speaking during a press conference, Naseem stated, as quoted by Cricket Pakistan:

"There is a language problem with foreign coaches. We need someone to translate the language. It is easier to communicate with the coach in your own language."

The 21-year-old reflected that Pakistan have been far from best in the last few months across formats and believes the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh is their opportunity to rediscover their mojo. He added, as per the aforementioned publication:

"Yes, our comeback wasn't great, and we can't deny that we didn't play good cricket. Criticism is part of it, and we must endure it until things improve. This is a good chance to bounce back, play better, and show up as a team. That's what I'm hoping for. I haven’t played red-ball rcricket for 13 months; it’s not easy to play after a long time. International cricket has its own pressure; however, we are training hard for it."

Pakistan's last Test series was an away one against Australia in December-January and the tourists lost it 3-0. However, they start as favorites against Bangladesh. The two-Test series begins on August 21 in Rawalpindi. While Pakistan, led by Shan Masood, have unveiled their squad, the visitors are yet to.
