"We would have played the World Cup together" - Jasprit Bumrah recalls hilarious conversation with Canadian team
Team India's star pacer Jasprit Bumrah recently spoke about how he would have moved to Canada if he wasn't able to fulfill his cricketing aspirations. He also revealed a funny conversation he had with the Canadian players during the recently concluded 2024 T20 World Cup.
The 30-year-old disclosed that during the showpiece event, a few Canadian players joked that they would have played the T20 World Cup together had shifted to Canada. Bumrah narrated the story on The Indian Express' Express Adda show.
"In this World Cup, I met the Canadian team, and they jokingly asked me that you know if you would have come here, we would have played the World Cup together. That was a conversation that was funny to have," he said (from 47:51).
It is worth mentioning that Jasprit Bumrah stole the show with his bowling exploits in the 2024 T20 World Cup. The speedster picked up 15 wickets from eight outings at a fantastic economy rate of 4.17.
India trumped South Africa by seven runs in the final to clinch the coveted trophy. Bumrah was adjudged the Player of the Tournament for his exceptional performances throughout the competition.

In the aforementioned show, Jasprit Bumrah mentioned that his mother Daljit wanted him to move to Canada. He suggested that she gave him a few years for his dream of becoming a cricketer, but somewhere felt that the chances were very slim.
Bumrah said in the same interaction (from 47:46):
"My uncle used to live in Canada, now he lives in America. My mother had given me a few years that okay, you can try whatever you do in this cricket because she'd think that so many people play the sport, how will you get there, we don't have a lot of means to give you and you've not really done this since you were a child. We thought okay, we'll give it a shot, and then probably I will go and study in Canada and try to make a living there."
Bumrah was last seen in action during the 2024 T20 World Cup. The ace bowler has been rested by the Indian team management for their upcoming Sri Lanka tour.
