West Indies all-rounder Deandra Dottin reverses her international retirement ahead of T20 World Cup
Former West Indian all-rounder Deandra Dottin has reversed her international retirement ahead of the T20 World Cup, beginning on October 3. The 33-year-old, who called time on her career in 2022, wrote a letter to Cricket West Indies (CWI), expressing her desire to return and contribute to all formats for the national team.
Having retired in August 2022, the Barbadian criticised the board for not handling matters relating to the players and how the players converse with them. In her statement, she predicted that things will not end well for West Indies Cricket if it continues this way.
Meanwhile, in a recent letter written to CWI, Dottin revealed that she had conversations with various stakeholders, including President Kishore Shallow about returning to the international arena.
As quoted windiescricket.com, she claimed:
"Representing West Indies in international cricket has always been a matter of great pride and passion for me. After a period of reflection and thoughtful dialogue with various parties within Cricket West Indies, including Cricket West Indies President, Dr. Kishore Shallow, I am pleased to inform you that I am eager to return to the game that I love, and contribute my utmost to the West Indies women's team across all formats, with immediate effect."
The seam-bowling all-rounder claimed that she is keen to ensure that the West Indies is on the winning path and mentoring the youngsters.
"I am confident that my experience, maturity, and skills will add value to the team as it has done in the past, and I am prepared to furnish my best efforts in every match and training session to ensure the team's winning trajectory in international cricket. Moreover, I am enthusiastic about mentoring younger players and contributing to the overall development of women's cricket in our region."
Dottin will lead the Trinbago Knight Riders for the 3rd consecutive time in the upcoming CPL edition. Having represented the West Indies in 270 international games, the 33-year-old scored the first women's T20I ton.
"Player of immense ability and experience" - CWI director on Deandra Dottin
Meanwhile, CWI Director of Cricket Miles Bascombe expressed his happiness at Dottin's announcement and has no doubt about her value to the national side. He stated:
"Deandra is a player of immense ability and experience. We are pleased with her decision to return to international cricket and be eligible for selection. There is no doubt that she could add significant value to the West Indies Women's teams."
The West Indies' next assignment is the Women's T20 World Cup.
