West Indies duo fined for breaching ICC's code of conduct in 2nd WI-BAN Test 2024

West Indian duo Jayden Seales and Kevin Sinclair have been fined for breaching the ICC's code of conduct in the second Test against Bangladesh in Jamaica. In a frustrating match for the hosts, Bangladesh pulled off a stunning 101-run victory to level the series at 1-1.

Coming to the penalties, Seales was fined 25 percent of his match fees for aggressive gestures towards the Bangladesh dressing room after a wicket. It meant the 23-year-old was also handed one demerit point to his disciplinary record - his first such offense in 24 months.

Seales' breach comes under the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel relating to 'conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game'.

Meanwhile, Sinclair, coming on as a substitute fielder, suffered a slightly lesser punishment, with 15 percent of his match fees docked for ignoring warnings from the on-field umpires on using abusive language to the Bangladesh players.

His actions also fell under the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel about 'disobeying an Umpire’s instruction during an International Match'.

The duo acknowledged their respective offenses and accepted the penalties proposed by Match referee Jeff Crowe, resulting in no need for a formal hearing.

Bangladesh overcame Seales' bowling heroics to register their first Test win in West Indies since 2009

Bangladesh broke a dubious 15-year Test winless streak in the West Indies with the second Test win in Jamaica.

Following their stunning 2-0 series win in the Caribbean in 2009, the Tigers had lost seven consecutive Tests in the country, including the first Test of the current series. However, they overcame a brilliant four-wicket haul from Jayden Seales in the first innings to pull off a thrilling win in a low-scoring encounter.

Batting first, Bangladesh scored only 164 and were starring down the barrel of another Test loss in the West Indies. However, an inspired bowling performance helped them bowl out the hosts for a mere 146.

An improved batting performance in the second innings saw them score 268, setting the West Indies a daunting 287 for victory. A five-wicket haul from left-arm spinner Taijul Islam helped Bangladesh bowl the West Indies out for only 185.

West Indies won the opening Test by a massive 201 runs and the two teams will now play three ODIs and as many T20Is from December 8 to 20.
