What is the cut-off time for a 10-over IND vs ENG 2024 T20 World Cup semifinal match?
Team India are all set to face England in the second semi-final of the 2024 T20 World Cup on Thursday, June 27, in a highly anticipated rematch from the previous edition. The focus during the build-up of the fixture has been the ominous weather conditions, and the predictions have been unfortunately spot on so far at the Providence Stadium in Guyana.
There was incessant rainfall on Wednesday, and although the day began with a little bit of sunshine, the clouds gathered right at the time of the contest. The slight drizzle right before the scheduled time forced the groundsmen to cover the pitch, and since then rain has been on and off.
As of writing, the toss has been officially delayed in Guyana despite the rain coming to a halt. Players are in the dressing room, with their warm-ups being interrupted.
Additionally, since the clash between India and England is a knockout fixture, both sides will have to play out a minimum of ten overs for a conclusive result to be determined. According to the ICC, the official cut-off time for the last resort shortened game has been determined to be 1:44 AM IST.
It is also to be noted that there is no reserve day in place for the contest, and a result has to be determined in the next set of hours.
Team India will progress into the final if the match is washed out
In the case where no play is possible at all due to the weather, then Team India will qualify for the 2024 T20 World Cup final due to their superior placement during the Super 8 stage. South Africa have already qualified for the T20 World Cup finals following their nine-wicket win over Afghanistan in Trinidad.
“It’s something we’ve known about since the start of the tournament, so to cry foul over it now probably doesn’t make a lot of sense. [But] I’m not going to lie, it would be great to have a reserve day because the weather can change from day to day. In an ideal world, it would look like that [a reserve day for both semi-finals], but maybe that’s something the ICC need to look at long term," England head coach Matthew Mott had said during the pre-match press conference.
Guyana did not host a single match in the 2024 T20 World Cup. The second semi-final between India and England is the first match at this venue. Meanwhile, the Kensington Oval in Barbados will host the final on Saturday.
