What is the cut-off time for a 20-over IND vs ENG 2024 T20 World Cup semifinal?
The toss for the T20 World Cup semifinal between India and England in Guyana has been delayed due to rain, thereby pushing its scheduled start of 8pm IST. However, there is still enough time left for the overs to start getting reduced.
As per ICC's playing conditions (via ESPNCricinfo), 250 extra minutes have been allotted for the second semifinal before any loss in overs. It means a full 20-over game can start as late as 12.10am IST on Friday, June 28.
A minimum of 10 overs have to be played for both sides to get a result. The cut-off time for a ten-over-a-side game is 1.44am IST (4.14pm local time). Though the second semifinal hasn't been allotted a reserve day, it has also been given 250 extra minutes like the first semi.
Notably, India will qualify for the final of the T20 World Cup if the match is washed out by virtue of a superior finish in their respective Super Eight group. The Men in Blue finished at the top of their group, while England finished second in theirs, having lost to their group winners South Africa.
Rain delay could affect India's team combination
A truncated game could arguably work in England's favor as they have the power hitters in their rank. Moreover, the reduction of overs would subsequently reduce the impact of the qualify of Indian spinners.
However, India also have some reinforcements to consider if it is a shortened game. They might look at the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal or Sanju Samson to come in for Shivam Dube as the seam-bowling all-rounder hasn't been in form with the bat.
They could also look to bring in Mohammed Siraj for one of the spinners as it could be difficult to grip the ball in wet conditions. At the time of writing, the drizzle had stopped and an inspection was scheduled for 8.45pm IST.
