What is the cut-off time for a 5-over USA vs IRE 2024 T20 World Cup match?
Consistent rains in Lauderhill, Florida, led to the toss of the 30th match of the T20 World Cup 2024 between the USA and Ireland being delayed due to a wet outfield. At the time of writing, the ICC confirmed that the cut-off time for a five-over game will be 2:16 PM local time (11:46 PM IST).
The umpires will have an inspection of the pitch at 10:45 PM IST (1:15 PM local time) and will take the call then. The USA, who are currently placed second in Group A points table, are close to securing a spot in the Super 8.
India have already found themselves a place in the next stage by bagging three wins in as many games. On the other hand, the USA put up fine performances throughout their campaign, beating Pakistan and Canada, to get close.
What will happen if the USA vs Ireland match sees no result?
In case the match between the USA and Ireland is washed out or abandoned, both teams will share one point each, and the co-hosts will have five points in their kitty, which will all but confirm their spot in the Super 8.
The USA’s advancement to the next level would mean Pakistan being knocked out of the race. Five teams, namely India, Australia, Afghanistan, the West Indies, and South Africa, have secured their place in the final eight.
While both spots from Group C are confirmed, the other three groups still have teams alive in the race. If today’s match in Florida sees no results, Group A too will have both its teams finalized as India and the USA will move further, and Pakistan, Canada, and Ireland will face elimination.
Notably, England and Scotland are fighting to secure the second place in the points table in Group B, with the Aussies sitting safely with six points. Group C saw shocking results as New Zealand, last edition’s semi-finalists, were knocked out of the race as Afghanistan and Windies qualified.
Bangladesh, the Netherlands, and Nepal are still in contention in Group D, with the Najmul Hossain Shanto-led side inching closer to grab the second spot.
