“What a day it has been” - R Ashwin’s wife appreciates his century in IND vs BAN 2024 1st Test

R Ashwin’s wife, Prithi Narayanan, lavished praise on the veteran spinner for his impressive century in the ongoing India vs Bangladesh Test. The MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai is hosting the first of the two-match series.

Invited to bat first, India started on a disappointing note losing the wickets of Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli early. However, Yashasvi Jaiswal (56) and Rishabh Pant (39) stabilized the innings with their calm approach. But their inability to convert their starts into big scores put India in trouble at 144/6.

At this point, Ravindra Jadeja and Ashwin formed a potent partnership with their strong defense and immaculate technique. The duo used their experience to rescue the side with an unbeaten 195-run stand on Day 1. Ashwin scored his sixth Test century and ended the day on 102* off 112 while Jadeja remained unbeaten on 86* off 117 as India posted 339/6.

After the day's play, Prithi shared a post by the BCCI on her Instagram story, appreciating R Ashwin's century. She captioned the story:

India dominate Bangladesh in first session on Day 2

On Day 2, Ravindra Jadeja failed to reach the three-figure mark as he was dismissed for 86. Meanwhile, R Ashwin added a few to his overnight score before making his way for 113. Akash Deep contributed a quickfire 17 as India went on to compile a total of 376. Hasan Mahmud became the first Bangladesh bowler to claim a five-for in India, finishing with 5/83.

In response, Bangladesh lost Shadman Islam early as he misjudged a good-length ball from Jasprit Bumrah. Although captain Najmul Hossain Shanto looked comfortable, the visitors were rocked by a double strike from Akash Deep as he breached the defenses of Zakir Hasan (3) and Mominul Haque (0) off consecutive deliveries.

At the Lunch break, Bangladesh were at 26/3, with Shanto (15*) and Mushfiqur Rahim (4*) at the crease.
