What was Dwayne Bravo’s role at CSK in IPL 2024?

Former West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo has called time on his illustrious career at Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Bravo will now serve as a mentor for defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders from the 2025 season. He will replace Gautam Gambhir, who recently took over as the India men's team head coach.

After joining CSK in 2011, Bravo played for the franchise until the 2022 season. He then donned the role of a bowling coach for the franchise from the following season. The 40-year-old gained immediate success as CSK went on to win the title in 2023, which was also MS Dhoni's last season as captain.

In the 2024 season, Bravo helped the CSK bowling group with his experience and ability to perform under pressure. Notably, he could be seen cheering for young pacers like Tushar Deshpande and Matheesha Pathirana from the sidelines.

Known for his ability to outfox batters with his slower balls and aggressive lower-order hitting, Dwayne Bravo helped CSK win three IPL titles as a player. He scalped 183 wickets and scored over 1,000 runs for the franchise in 116 appearances.

Dwayne Bravo recently bid farewell to all forms of cricket

The decorated Caribbean all-rounder made his international debut in April 2004 and featured in 40 Tests, 164 ODIs and 91 T20Is. He garnered over 6,000 runs and took 363 wickets, while also playing a key role in the West Indies' triumph in the 2012 and 2016 T20 World Cups.

Despite retiring from international cricket after the 2021 T20 World Cup, Bravo continued to play franchise cricket. He played for Mumbai Emirates in ILT20, Texas Super Kings in MLC and Trinbago Knight Riders in CPL.

Bravo was also appointed as the bowling coach of Afghanistan for the 2024 T20 World Cup. His efforts bore fruit as the side made their maiden semifinal appearance in ICC events.

Dwayne Bravo's last T20 appearance came for the Knight Riders on September 24 against St. Lucia Kings in CPL 2024. Overall, he scalped a record 631 wickets and scored nearly 7,000 runs in 582 T20s.
