Shreyas Iyer's Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will take on the Faf du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Match 36 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at Eden Gardens on Sunday (April 21).
The two teams have locked horns 33 times in the IPL, with the Knight Riders leading the head-to-head battle 19-14 against Bengaluru. They beat RCB by seven wickets in their most recent faceoff at M Chinnaswamy Stadium this season.
Asked to bat first, RCB posted 182/6 in their allotted 20 overs. Virat Kohli starred with the bat, scoring 83 runs off 59 balls in an innings laced with four sixes and as many boundaries. Cameron Green, Glenn Maxwell and Dinesh Karthik too chipped in with 33 (21), 28(19), and 20 (8), respectively. Meanwhile, skipper Faf du Plessis, Rajat Patidar and Anuj Rawat departed for single digits.
Harshit Rana and Andre Russell were the top wicket-takers for KKR, returning with two scalps apiece. Sunil Narine also bagged one wicket.
In response, the visitors achieved the target with 3.1 overs to spare. Narine and Phil Salt provided a promising start for the Knight Riders by sharing an 86-run stand for the opening wicket. Narine scored 47 off 22 deliveries, including five sixes and two boundaries. Salt chipped in with 30 off 20 with the help of two sixes and as many fours.
Venkatesh Iyer and skipper Shreyas Iyer then continued to dominate RCB by sharing a 75-run stand for the third wicket. Venkatesh scored 50 off 30, hitting four sixes and three boundaries. Shreyas stayed unbeaten on 39 off 24, smashing two fours and as many boundaries.

KKR's scorecard from their last IPL game
KKR lost to Rajasthan Royals (RR) by two wickets in a last-ball thriller at Eden Gardens during their last IPL game on April 16.
Asked to bat first, KKR put up 223/6 in their allotted 20 overs. Sunil Narine starred with the bat with his maiden IPL century, scoring 109 off 56 in an innings comprising six maximums and 13 boundaries. Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Rinku Singh also chipped in with 30 (18) and 20*(9), respectively.
Avesh Khan and Kuldeep Sen were the leading wicket-takers, picking up two scalps apiece. Trent Boult and Yuzvendra Chahal also shared one each.
In response, RR achieved the target off the final delivery. Jos Buttler stayed unbeaten on 107 off 60, including six maximums and nine boundaries. Riyan Parag and Rovman Powell also contributed 34 (14) and 26 (13), respectively.
Harshit Rana, Sunil Narine and Varun Chakaravarthy scalped two wickets each, while Vaibhav Arora bagged one.

RCB's scorecard from their last IPL match
RCB lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 25 runs in a high-scoring game in their last IPL outing at M Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 15.
Put in to bat first, SRH posted the highest score in IPL history. The Pat Cummins-led side posted 287/3 in 20 overs to go past their previous record of 277.
Travis Head top scored with 102 off 41, including eight sixes and nine boundaries. Heinrich Klaasen also scored a quickfire 67 off 31 with the help of seven maximums and two fours. Abhishek Sharma, Aiden Markram and Abdul Samad chipped in with 34 (22), 32*(17), and 37*(10).
Lockie Ferguson picked up two wickets, while Reece Topley managed to take one.
In response, RCB managed 262/7 in 20 overs. Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli provided a decent start by sharing an 80-run partnership for the opening wicket. Faf scored 62 off 28, smashing four sixes and seven boundaries. Kohli also hit 42 off 20, hitting two sixes and six boundaries.
Dinesh Karthik then put up a lone fight, scoring 83 off 35 with the help of seven sixes and five boundaries. Anuj Rawat and Mahipal Lomror contributed 25*(14) and 19 (11), respectively.
Cummins led from the front for SRH, finishing with figures of 3/43, while Mayank Markande scalped two wickets. T Natarajan also bagged one wicket.
