What happened the last time LSG played against CSK? Exploring Lucknow Super Giants and Chennai Super Kings' last match scorecards in IPL

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will take on defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in match 34 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at Ekana Cricket Stadium on Friday (April 19).

The two teams have locked horns thrice since the Super Giants became part of IPL in 2022. Chennai and Lucknow have won one game each and the other didn't yield a result. The Super Kings beat LSG by 12 runs in their most recent IPL encounter at MA Chidambaram Stadium last year.

Asked to bat first, CSK posted 217/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway provided a perfect start by sharing a 110-run stand for the opening wicket.

Gaikwad scored 57 runs off 31 balls, including four sixes and three boundaries. Conway chipped in with 47 off 29 deliveries with the help of two sixes and five boundaries. Shivam Dube and Ambati Rayudu chipped in with identical scores of 27. Meanwhile, Moeen Ali and MS Dhoni contributed 19 (13) and 12 (3), respectively.

Mark Wood and Ravi Bishnoi starred with the ball for Lucknow, returning with three wickets each. Avesh Khan also bagged one wicket.

In response, Kyle Mayers gave a promising start, scoring 53 off 22 in an innings with two sixes and eight boundaries. Nicholas Pooran also scored 32 off 18, comprising three sixes and two boundaries. KL Rahul, Ayush Badoni, and Marcus Stoinis chipped in with their 20s but failed to take the team past the finish line. In the end, they managed 205/7.

Moeen Ali emerged as the pick of the Super Kings bowlers, finishing with figures of 4/26, Tushar Deshpande bagged two wickets. Mitchell Santner also scalped one.

LSG's scorecard from their last IPL game

LSG lost to Kolkata Knight Riders by eight wickets in their last IPL game at Eden Gardens on April 14.

Asked to bat first, LSG posted 161/7 in their allotted 20 overs. KL Rahul provided a decent start by scoring 39 off 27, including two sixes and three boundaries. Ayush Badoni also got off to a start by scoring 29 off 27 but failed to consolidate as Lucknow lost quick wickets. Nicholas Pooran provided the late flourish by scoring 45 off 32 with the help of four sixes and two boundaries.

Mitchell Starc starred with the ball for KKR, finishing with exceptional figures of 3/28, while Vaibhav Arora, Sunil Narine, Varun Chakaravarthy and Andre Russell picked up one wicket apiece.

In response, Mohsin Khan provided a double blow to the Knight Riders by dismissing Sunil Narine and Angkrish Raghuvanshi for single digits.

Phil Salt and skipper Shreyas Iyer then shared an unbeaten 120-run partnership to take KKR past the finish line with 26 balls to spare. Salt top scored with an unbeaten 89 off 47, including three maximums and 14 boundaries. Meanwhile, Iyer chipped in with a run-a-ball 38.

CSK's scorecard from their last IPL match

CSK beat Mumbai Indians by 20 runs in their last IPL fixture at Wankhede on April 14.

Asked to bat first, CSK put up 206/4 in 20 overs. Ajinkya Rahane and Rachin Ravindra failed at the start but Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shivam Dube stood tall. The duo added 90 runs for the third wicket.

Gaikwad top scored with 69 off 40 in an innings laced with five sixes and as many fours. Dube stayed unbeaten on 66 off 38 with two sixes and 10 boundaries. Daryl Mitchell and Rachin chipped in with 17 (14) and 21 (16), respectively.

MS Dhoni provided the finishing touches with 20 off four, including a hat-trick of sixes in the last over against MI captain Hardik Pandya.

Pandya was the leading wicket-taker with two scalps, while Gerald Coetzee and Shreyas Gopal managed one each.

In response, Rohit Sharma put up a lone fight for MI, scoring an unbeaten 105 off 63, smashing five sixes and 11 boundaries. Tilak Varma, Ishan Kishan, and Tim David contributed 31 (20), 23 (15), and 13 (5), respectively. The trio, though, failed to take the team past the finish line as MI managed 186/6.

Matheesha Pathirana starred with the ball for CSK, returning with exceptional figures of 4/28, while Mustafizur Rahman and Tushar Deshpande bagged one wicket each.
