Rajasthan Royals (RR) will take on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Match 70 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Sunday (May 19).

The two teams have locked horns 29 times in the IPL, with the head-to-head battle evenly poised at 14:14. The Royals beat the Knight Riders by two wickets in their most recent face-off at Eden Gardens on April 16.

Asked to bat first, KKR put up 223/6 in their allotted 20 overs. Sunil Narine starred with the bat, scoring 109 runs off 56 balls in an innings comprising six maximums and 13 boundaries. Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Rinku Singh chipped in with 30 (18) and 20* (9), respectively.

Avesh Khan and Kuldeep Sen picked up two wickets each for RR, while Trent Boult and Yuzvendra Chahal scalped one each.

In response, RR achieved the target off the last ball. Jos Buttler scored an unbeaten 107 off 60 deliveries with the help of six maximums and nine boundaries. Riyan Parag and Rovman Powell also chipped in with 34 (14) and 26 (13), respectively.

Sunil Narine, Harshit Rana and Varun Chakaravarthy took two wickets each for KKR, while Vaibhav Arora bagged one.

KKR’s scorecard from their last IPL match

KKR’s last IPL game against Gujarat Titans (GT) at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad was abandoned due to rain. Here’s what happened in their previous game.

The Knight Riders beat Mumbai Indians (MI) by 18 runs in a rain-curtailed game at Eden Gardens on May 11.

Asked to bat first, KKR posted 157/7 in their allotted 16 overs. In-form openers Sunil Narine and Phil Salt perished early. Venkatesh Iyer starred with the bat, scoring 42 off 21, hitting two sixes and six boundaries. Nitish Rana, Andre Russell and Rinku Singh chipped in with 33 (23), 24 (14) and 20 (12), respectively.

Jasprit Bumrah and Piyush Chawla bagged two wickets each for MI, while Nuwan Thushara and Anshul Kamboj bagged one each.

In response, MI managed 139/8. Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma got off to starts, scoring 40 (22) and 19 (23), respectively, but failed to take the team past the finish line. Suryakumar Yadav also departed for 11 off 14. Tilak Varma and Naman Dhir chipped in with 32 (17) and 17 (6), respectively.

Andre Russell, Varun Chakaravarthy and Harshit Rana bagged two wickets each for KKR, while Sunil Narine settled for one.

RR’s scorecard from their last IPL game

RR lost to Punjab Kings (PBKS) by five wickets in their last IPL game in Guwahati on May 15.

Opting to bat, Sanju Samson and Co. posted 144/9 in 20 overs. Riyan Parag top scored with 48 off 34, including six boundaries. Ravichandran Ashwin also chipped in with 28 off 19, including one six and three boundaries. Captain Sanju Samson and Tom Kohler-Cadmore scored 18 apiece.

Punjab skipper Sam Curran, Harshal Patel and Rahul Chahar scalped two wickets each, while Arshdeep Singh and Nathan Ellis picked up one apiece.

In response, PBKS achieved the target with seven balls to spare. The top order failed to deliver but Sam Curran came to the rescue, scoring an unbeaten 63 off 41, including three sixes and five boundaries to take the team past the finish line. Rilee Rossouw and Jitesh Sharma chipped in with identical scores of 22.

Avesh Khan and Yuzvendra Chahal bagged two wickets each for RR, while Trent Boult settled for one wicket.
