"What a story" - Fans react as Yash Dayal earns maiden India call-up for IND vs BAN 1st Test

Yash Dayal earned his maiden India call-up as the BCCI announced the squad for the first match of the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh on Sunday, September 8. The series will kick start at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai from September 19.

Dayal's inclusion in India squad comes after the left-arm pacer bagged four wickets, including 3/50 in the second innings, for India B against India A in the Duleep Trophy match. His team won the match by 76 runs.

The 26-year-old has a promising record in first-class cricket, picking up 76 wickets in 24 matches for Uttar Pradesh.

Apart from the red-ball format, Dayal impressed with his performance for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the latest edition of Indian Premier League (IPL). He picked up 15 wickets in 14 games in IPL 2024.

Notably, Dayal's selection in the national team comes a year after Rinku Singh (KKR vs GT) smacked him for five consecutive sixes in an over during IPL 2023.

Fans on X congratulated Dayal on earning his maiden India call-up.

One user wrote:

"'Bhagwan downfall kitna bhi bura de par comeback Yash Dayal jaisa de.' From severe clinical depression in 2023 to making the Indian team in 2024."

Another user wrote:

"From getting hit for 5 sixes in an over in IPL to getting a call for the Indian team. Yash Dayal has come a long way, hard work always pays off and times always change, what a story."

Another user added:

"He deserves that, one bad match can't decide his future, He has good swing."

Here are a few more reactions:

Apart from Dayal, Rishabh Pant made his comeback to the Test side for the first time since his car accident in 2022.

Meanwhile, KL Rahul returned to the Test fold. The wicketkeeper-batter suffered a quadricep injury, which forced him to miss four out of five matches in the Test series against England.
