What is Virat Kohli's record in Test matches against Bangladesh?

Senior Indian batter Virat Kohli will be back in action in Test cricket when the hosts take on Bangladesh in a two-match series. The first Test of the series will be played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai from September 19 to September 23. The second Test will be held in Green Park in Kanpur from September 27 to October 1.

For Kohli, the series against Bangladesh will mark his return to Test cricket after a long gap. He last featured in red-ball cricket for India in the two-match Test series in South Africa in December 2023-January 2024. The 35-year-old scored 38 and 76 in the first match in Centurion and 46 and 12 in the second game in Cape Town. He missed the five home Tests against England for the birth of his son.

Speaking of his record against Bangladesh in Test cricket, Kohli has produced excellent numbers. In six matches (nine innings), he has scored 437 runs at an average of 54.62, with two hundreds to his credit. The former India captain notched up a double hundred against Bangladesh in Hyderabad in February 2017. He scored 204 off 246 in the first innings and 38 off 40 in the second.

Kohli's second three-figure score against Bangladesh in Tests came in November 2019 in the Day-Night match in Kolkata. He scored 136 off 194 balls, with the aid of 18 fours as Team India won the contest by an innings and 46 runs. This knock was hugely significant in the context that the seasoned batter's next hundred in international cricket came after more than 1,000 days.

Virat Kohli's record in the ongoing WTC cycle

Looking at Kohli's record in the 2023-2025 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle, he is currently in the 36th position among the leading run-getters. Of course, one of the reasons behind him appearing so low on the list is because he missed the five-match Test series at home against England.

In four matches (six innings) in the ongoing WTC cycle, Kohli has scored 369 runs at an average of 61.50, with one hundred and two half-centuries. Before the two-match Test series in South Africa, the 35-year-old also featured in two Tests in West Indies. He scored 76 off 182 balls in the first match in Roseau and followed it up with 121 off 206 deliveries in Port of Spain.
