What will happen if the India vs South Africa 2024 T20 World Cup final ends in a tie?
Team India will face South Africa in the final of the 2024 T20 World Cup at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados on Saturday, June 29. Both the Men in Blue and the Proteas will head into the summit clash of the tournament on the back of unbeaten streaks.
India booked their place in the final by getting the better of England in the second semifinal at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. On the other hand, South Africa hammered Afghanistan by nine wickets in the first semifinal at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad.
If the weather holds good, we could have a close contest in the 2024 T20 World Cup final between India and South Africa. In case the match goes all the way down to the wire and ends in a tie, a Super Over will be played to determine the winner of the summit clash. If the Super Over cannot be held due to weather conditions, India and South Africa will be declared joint winners.
Clause 16.10.8 of ICC's playing conditions for the 2024 T20 World Cup final states:
"In the event of a tied final, the teams shall compete in a Super Over to determine which team is the winner."
"If following a tie, weather conditions prevent the Super Over from being completed, or if the match is abandoned or a no result, the teams shall be declared joint winners," the clause adds.
In case of a weather interruption, there is a reserve day in place on Sunday, June 30. Depending on the state of the game, either an incomplete match can be completed on the reserve day or the entire match can be played on Sunday. A minimum of 10 overs per side need to be bowled for a result in the India-South Africa final.
