Having thumped England in the second semifinal, Team India will now face South Africa in the mega final of the 2024 Men's T20 World Cup at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados, on Saturday, June 29. The summit clash of the ICC event will begin at 8:00 PM IST and 10:30 AM local time.
While the Men in Blue beat England in the second semifinal, the Proteas hammered Afghanistan by nine wickets in the first seminal at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad. Batting first, Afghanistan were bundled out for a paltry 56 in 11.5 overs as Marco Jansen and Tabraiz Shamsi claimed three wickets each. Their batters then gunned down the target in a mere 8.5 overs.
Both India and South Africa head into the final on the back of unbeaten streaks. The Men in Blue won their first three matches in Group A, while the last game against Canada in Florida was abandoned due to a wet outfield. In the Super 8 round, they got the better of Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Australia in Group 1.
The Proteas topped Group D, registering four wins in four games. They beat Sri Lanka, Netherlands, Bangladesh and Nepal to make it to the next round. In the Super 8 stage, they got the better of the United States, England and West Indies before hammering Afghanistan in the first semifinal.
