When was the last time Rishabh Pant played a Ranji Trophy match for Delhi?
Rishabh Pant's inclusion in Delhi's Ranji Trophy squad for the 2024-25 season with Virat Kohli on Wednesday, September 25, left many surprised. The duo are currently participating in the two-match Test series against Bangladesh.
This marks Pant's potential return to the Ranji Trophy for the first time since the 2017-18 season. He slammed 315 runs in nine innings at an average of 35. The southpaw's best knock of 99 off 110 came against Maharashtra, which helped Delhi to win the match by an innings and 61 runs.
Notably, Pant returned with scores of 21 and 32 in the final, which saw Vidarbha lift their maiden Ranji title after winning the game by nine wickets.
Soon, Rishabh Pant made his Test debut against England in August 2018, and since then hasn't played in the Ranji Trophy. After suffering a horrific car accident in December 2022, Pant made a return to competitive cricket in IPL 2024.
After emerging as the Delhi Capitals' finest batter with 446 runs in 13 innings, the keeper-batter received a call-up to the Indian side for the T20 World Cup 2024. He garnered 171 runs in eight innings, as the Men in Blue went on to clinch the title.
After his solitary appearance in the Duleep Trophy which he marked with a fifty, Pant returned to the Test setup after nearly 21 months.
Rishabh Pant's century floored Bangladesh in 1st Test
Rishabh Pant had an impressive comeback to the longest format in the first game of the two-match Test series against Bangladesh in Chennai. The left-handed batter helped the Indian team to recover from 34/3 with his crucial 39-run knock in the first innings.
The second innings saw him bring up his sixth Test century by scoring 109 and stitching a 167-run stand with Shubman Gill (119*). As a result, India set a mammoth 515-run target for the visitors. In response, Bangladesh were bundled out for 234, as Ravichandran Ashwin picked up six wickets.
Rishabh Pant will return to the field on Friday, September 27, for the final Test against Bangladesh in Kanpur.
