When is the next ICC tournament?
As Team India and their fans continue to celebrate winning the 2024 T20 World Cup title, a section has started wondering about the next big ICC tournaments coming up. While there are several Test matches played this year falling under the 2023-25 World Test Championship (WTC), the next ICC tournament will be the Women's T20 World Cup in October 2024.
The event will take place in Bangladesh from October 3 to 20 with 10 teams split into two groups, followed by the semi-final and final. Australia are the defending champions, having defeated South Africa in 2023.
Following the Women's T20 World Cup, the Men will be back in action in an ICC event during the 2025 Champions Trophy. The tournament hosted by Pakistan will be played from February 19 to March 9.
As the host nation, Pakistan earned direct qualification as one of the eight participating teams. The other seven teams were decided by the top seven teams, excluding Pakistan, in the 2023 ODI World Cup.
The eight teams will be split into two groups each, followed by the semi-final and final.
Meanwhile, 2025 will also witness the WTC final that is tentatively scheduled to be played at Lord's in June. And finally, the Women's 50-over World Cup will also be played later next year with India hosting the event.
Australia will be the defending champions in both the 2023-25 WTC final and the 50-over Women's World Cup.
Team India triumphed in record fashion in the latest ICC tournament - 2024 T20 World Cup
Team India just completed their mission of breaking the 11-year ICC title drought with a sensational triumph in the just-concluded 2024 T20 World Cup. Apart from becoming only the sixth team to win a World Cup without losing a game, the Men in Blue were also the first to achieve the feat in a T20 event.
Skipper Rohit Sharma joined MS Dhoni and Kapil Dev as the only Indian captains to lift a World Cup Trophy. He along with Player of the Final, Virat Kohli subsequently announced their retirement from T20Is following the title-clinching win against South Africa.
Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah was the Player of the Tournament for his incredible bowling display as India won their second T20 World Cup title and first since the inaugural edition in 2007.
