Team India hammered Zimbabwe by 100 runs in the second T20I of the five-match series at the Harare Sports Club on Sunday, July 7. With the thumping victory, the Men in Blue leveled the five-match series 1-1. They had lost the opening match by 13 runs.
Batting first after winning the toss in the second T20I, India posted an imposing 234-2. Skipper Shubman Gill fell cheaply, but Abhishek Sharma slammed 100 off 47, a knock that featured seven fours and eight sixes. Ruturaj Gaikwad (77* off 47) and Rinku Singh (48* off 22) also played impressive knocks as the Zimbabwe attack was put to sword.
In their chase, the hosts folded up for a disappointing 134 in 18.4 overs. Pacers Mukesh Kumar and Avesh Khan claimed three wickets each, while Ravi Bishnoi impressed with 2-11.
For Zimbabwe, Wessly Madhevere top-scored with 43 off 39, while Luke Jongwe scored a fighting 33 off 26.
India vs Zimbabwe 3rd T20I will be played on June 10
Having played back-to-back matches, India and Zimbabwe will next clash in the third T20I at the Harare Sports Club on Wednesday, July 10. The game will begin at 4:30 p.m. IST (1 p.m. local time). The last two matches of the series will also be played in Harare, on July 13 and July 14.
Shivam Dube, Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal will be part of the squad for the last three T20Is against Zimbabwe.
All three were part of India's victorious 2024 T20 World Cup squad. They were initially named in the squad for all five T20Is against Zimbabwe. Subsequently, they were replaced by Sai Sudharsan, Jitesh Sharma and Harshit Rana for the first two T20Is.
