Young Indian team to take on Zimbabwe in T20I series
Having accomplished what they set out to achieve, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli announced their retirements from T20I cricket after India's win in the 2024 T20 World Cup final in Barbados. A day after, seasoned all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja also joined them in T20I retirement.
With several members of the T20 World Cup-winning squad rested, Shubman Gill has been named captain for the five-match series in Zimbabwe. Abhishek Sharma, Dhruv Jurel, Riyan Parag, Washington Sundar, Avesh Khan, and Tushar Deshpande are some of the other members of the fresh-looking squad.
In a recent development, Sai Sudharsan, Jitesh Sharma, and Harshit Rana were named in the Men in Blue squad for the first two T20Is as replacements for Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube, and Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Samson, Dube, and Jaiswal were part of the India team that lifted the T20 World Cup in the West Indies. They have been stranded in Barbados, along with the other members of the squad, due to a hurricane. Through an official release on Tuesday, July, the BCCI confirmed that they will first travel to India with the rest of the team and then depart for Harare for the remaining three T20Is.
