“Whenever Suryakumar Yadav is playing, anything is possible” - Wasim Jaffer reflects on Top 3 IPL 2023 moments from last week
Former Indian batter Wasim Jaffer has described Suryakumar Yadav as a nightmare for bowlers, owing to his ability to hit strokes all around the ground. He went on to add that when SKY is batting out in the middle, anything is possible.
Jaffer made the comments while sharing his views on Suryakumar’s sensational 83 off 35 balls in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The fantastic knock secured a six wicket win for Mumbai Indians (MI) over Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
The right-handed batter smashed seven fours and six sixes as MI chased down a target of 200. The fantastic effort tops the list of Sportskeeda’s IPL 2023 ‘Sar Utha ke Jiyo Moments’ from last week, powered by HDFCLife.com.
Speaking about the knock, Jaffer hailed Suryakumar and said:
“He is a nightmare for bowlers. When Suryakumar Yadav is on song, then it’s very hard for a bowler to bowl. He can hit you across the ground - 360 degree. He can hit you anywhere, and you have got only nine fielders. He makes life difficult for the bowlers and the [opposition] captain. You [the fielding team] are always happy when you see the back of Suryakumar Yadav, Whenever Suryakumar Yadav is playing, anything is possible. That is why Mumbai Indians easily won the match against RCB.”
Chasing a big score, MI were in trouble at 52/2. However, Suryakumar saved the day for MI with his aggressive innings. Courtesy of SKY, Mumbai were prepared to deal with an unpredictable situation. With HDFC Life savings plans, you too can be prepared for any googly life throws your way.
Rajasthan Royals opener Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 98* off 47 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens in Kolkata is second on the list of IPL 2023 ‘Sar Utha ke Jiyo Moments’ from last week. The left-handed batter smashed 13 fours and five sixes and also notched up the fastest IPL fifty (13 balls). Jaiswal offered protection to RR from a batting collapse after they lost Jos Buttler for a duck in a chase of 150.
Praising the youngster, Jaffer opined that Jaiswal seems ready to play for India. He commented:
“I think he ready. His performance has been excellent. In the match against Mumbai Indians (MI), he scored 124 against a good bowling attack comprising Jofra Archer and Piyush Chawla among others. To back it up with 98* off 47 balls in chase against a KKR attack which has good spinners… I feel he is ready. I think he is the next big player. We talk of Shubman Gill. I feel Jaiswal is in that line also.”
With his consistent performances, Jaiswal has been like insurance for RR, constantly delivering under pressure. RR have wisely chosen Jaiswal. You too should choose HDFC Life term insurance plans for complete protection!

He hit two fours and seven sixes as Gujarat posted 227/2 after being sent into bat by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and eased to victory by 56 runs. Praising Gill for his consistent performances, Jaffer said:
“The way he has been performing for the Indian team for the last year and a half and in the IPL as well, it’s a really good sign for Indian fans and his franchise. People really enjoy watching him bat. He has the skills to play in all three formats. He has scored a double hundred in one-day cricket and T20I as well and has done well in Tests too. He can hopefully serve India for the next 10-15 years.”
Gill has been brilliant for GT over the last two seasons. He smashed 483 runs last season when Gujarat lifted the title during their maiden appearance in the T20 league. This year, he has already amassed more than 570 runs. Gujarat must be credited for making an extremely smart investment in the exceptionally talented Gill.
