Which 4 teams have qualified for the semifinals of 2024 T20 World Cup?
The Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup 2024 concluded on Tuesday, June 25. Four teams, namely South Africa, England, India, and Afghanistan have qualified for the semifinals of the tournament, which will be played on June 26-27.
While South Africa and England qualified from Group 2 of the Super Eights, India and Afghanistan finished in the top two of Group 1 to seal their place in the final four.
The Group 1 clashes were the most interesting ones, with all four teams remaining in contention till the penultimate game of the Super 8s. India defeated Australia in the first game to finish on top of the points table and confirm their place in the knockout stage.
With Australia, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan’s chances hanging on a thread ahead of the final Super 8 game between the two Asian sides, the Rashid Khan-led side clinched a victory against Bangladesh to seal the last remaining spot in the final four.
Who will play who in the T20 World Cup 2024 semi-finals?
Group 1 table toppers India will lock horns with England, who finished second in Group 2 of the Super 8s, in the second semifinal. It will be a rematch of the previous edition’s semifinal between the two cricketing giants.
Meanwhile, South Africa, who qualified after topping the Group 2 points table, will play the first semi-final of the ongoing edition of the T20 World Cup against Afghanistan, who qualified by knocking out Australia after a dramatic win against Bangladesh.
The first semifinal between South Africa and Afghanistan will be played at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad, on Thursday, June 26 (6 AM IST on June 27). The other knock-out game between India and England will be hosted by the Providence Stadium in Guyana on June 27 (8 PM IST).
Notably, England are the defending champions at the T20 World Cup 2024, having won the 2022 edition of the tournament by beating Pakistan in the final.
