Which team has bought Shreyas Iyer and for how much money in IPL 2025 Auction?

Shreyas Iyer breaches the existing record to become the most expensive acquisition in Indian Premier League (IPL) history. The right-handed batter was roped in by the Punjab Kings (PBKS) for INR 26.75 crore after an intense bidding war during Day 1 of the IPL 2025 Auction in Jeddah on Sunday, November 24.

Iyer's former franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) had expressed the first interest, by kickstarting the bidding process, but were soon blown away by the pair of PBKS and DC.

He was one of the biggest names on the auction list, and the hype was justified as the two franchises went on a scale never witnessed before, surpassing the record bid of INR 24.75 previously held by Iyer's former teammate Mitchell Starc.

Iyer has an impressive IPL resume to his name, particularly as a captain, after guiding DC to the finals of the 2020 edition, and responsible for KKR's third title in the 2024 edition. He also brings a lot to the table with his ability to play spin in the middle order, and will prove to be the batting backbone of PBKS in the coming seasons.

Shreyas Iyer reunites with Ricky Ponting at Punjab Kings

Shreyas Iyer has worked extensively with newly-appointed PBKS head coach Ricky Ponting during their time in the Delhi Capitals (DC). The pair forged a good working relationship, and played a huge part in the franchise's dominance in the early part of the decade.

The right-handed batter had recently showcased what he was capable of after slamming a brilliant ton while leading Mumbai in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy clash against Goa.

Iyer is expected to have a lavish squad courtesy of PBKS' heavy purse. The franchise already used their RTM card to bring back Arshdeep Singh for INR 18 crore to kickstart the IPL 2025 Auction.
