Which team will India face in the semifinals of the 2024 T20 World Cup?
India have officially qualified for the 2024 T20 World Cup semifinals after a 24-run victory against Australia. The Men in Blue maintained their 100% win record in the Group 1 points table and sealed a place in the next round.
As per ICC's format, the team that finishes first in Group 1 will take on the team that finishes second in Group 2 in the second semifinal. Hence, India will be up against defending champions England in the second semifinal match on June 27 at 8pm IST.
Guyana's Providence Stadium will host to the semifinal re-match between India and England. Two years ago, England beat India by 10 wickets in the T20 World Cup 2022 tournament's second semifinal. India will be keen to avenge that loss on June 27.
It is pertinent to note that there is no reserve day for the second semifinal. Hence, if rain abandons the match, the team that finished higher in Super 8s will qualify for the final. Since India finished higher in the group than England, the Men in Blue will make it to the summit clash if the game is abandoned at Providence Stadium on June 27.
Which team will join India, England, and South Africa in 2024 T20 World Cup semifinals?
Three of the four semifinalists in the 2024 T20 World Cup have been decided. South Africa and England have qualified from Group 2, while India have confirmed a top of the table finish in Group 1.
The fourth spot is still up for grabs, with three teams, namely Australia, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh in the race. Afghanistan need just one point from their last game against Bangladesh to qualify, while Bangladesh have to beat Afghanistan by 61+ runs or chase the target with 42+ balls to spare to qualify. Australia will qualify if Bangladesh beat Afghanistan by a small margin.
