Why is Arshdeep Singh not playing today’s IND vs SL 3rd T20I?
Team India pacer Arshdeep Singh will miss the third and final T20I against Sri Lanka at Pallekele on July 30. The 25-year-old played the opening two games at the same venue.
However, with India taking an unassailable 2-0 series lead after two dominant wins, Arshdeep has been rested for the final outing.
Skipper Suryakumar Yadav confirmed the same at the toss by saying:
"Would've liked to chase as well with the weather around. Becomes difficult for the bowling team to control the ball later. We have 4 guys resting - Hardik, Axar, Rishabh and Arshdeep. We spoke about the brand of cricket we want to play and it's about topping it up every game and being the best version of ourselves."
Arshdeep played a crucial role in helping India win the first two matches with identical figures of 2/24 in 3 overs in both outings.
The 25-year-old was the leading wicket-taker in the recently concluded T20 World Cup with 17 scalps at an incredible average of 12.64 and an economy of 7.16 in eight games.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to chase in an attempt to avoid a series whitewash at home.
I like tough situations and I want to perform in those situations - Arshdeep Singh
Arshdeep Singh spoke to the broadcasters before the start of the third T20I and mentioned how much he relishes performing in crunch situations.
The left-arm pacer has become India's go-to bowler with the new ball and the death after Jasprit Bumrah.
"I am very grateful, you always dream to play for your country and I have received a lot of support. I like the pressure, I like tough situations and I want to perform in those situations. I try new variations - sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, I focus on the process and not results. I have been lucky enough to play with great bowlers like Bhuvi, Bumarh and now Siraj as well," said Arshdeep.
Arshdeep came up clutch in India's win over South Africa in the T20 World Cup final with figures of 2/20 in four overs.
He boasts excellent overall T20I numbers with 83 wickets at an average of 18.75 and an economy under 8.50 in 54 outings.
