Why is David Warner not playing today's DC vs MI IPL 2024 match?
Veteran Delhi Capitals (DC) opener David Warner will not feature in the IPL 2024 clash against the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday, April 27.
DC's Director of Cricket Sourav Ganguly on the eve of the game had clarified to the reporters that Warner would be unavailable for selection. The southpaw continues to recover from a left thumb injury that he had sustained in the game against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
While David Warner played against the SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH), he missed their next game against the Gujarat Titans (GT) and the same issue seems to have resurfaced.
DC also will be without Prithvi Shaw
The Delhi Capitals have been asked to bat first by the Mumbai Indians and have made two changes to their side. Rishabh Pant said that Kumar Kushagra will replace Prithvi Shaw in their XI. It seems like the hosts have dropped Shaw, which is a decision that might raise quite a few eyebrows.
Shaw did have a tough start to IPL 2024, but seemed to be getting better in his stroke play of late. Although he scored just 185 runs in seven innings, he got those at a strike rate of 162.28. It will be interesting to see whether Delhi will open with Jake Fraser-McGurk and Kushagra. They have also replaced speedster Anrich Nortje with Lizaad Williams.
MI, on the other hand, have a forced change to their XI as Hardik Pandya stated that Gerald Coetzee had a stomach bug and has been replaced by Luke Wood.
DC XI: Jake Fraser-McGurk, Kumar Kushagra, Shai Hope, Rishabh Pant(w/c), Tristan Stubbs, Abishek Porel, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Lizaad Williams, Mukesh Kumar, Khaleel Ahmed.
MI XI: Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan(w), Tilak Varma, Nehal Wadhera, Hardik Pandya(c), Tim David, Mohammad Nabi, Piyush Chawla, Luke Wood, Jasprit Bumrah, Nuwan Thushara
