Why is DC wearing rainbow jersey in today’s IPL 2023 match vs CSK?
Delhi Capitals (DC) will wear a unique rainbow-themed jersey for their last fixture of IPL 2023 against the Chennai Super Kings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Saturday, May 20.
It is an annual cause for the Capitals to wear a special designed shirt comprising seven colours in the rainbow in one of their IPL league games to celebrate India's diversity.
This particular cause was started by DC in the 2020 season. They donned the rainbow-themed jersey against Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals in 2020, 2021 and 2022 respectively.
Capitals is not the only IPL franchise to wear a different shirt to support various causes. RCB wears green jersey every year in their "Go Green" game which promotes a cleaner and greener environment.
In their recent game against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Gujarat Titans donned the lavender jersey in a bid to raise cancer awareness.
Lucknow Super Giants will also wear red and green jersey as a matter of tribute to the oldest football club of India - Mohun Bagan. LSG will wear the jersey against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens on Saturday evening.
How DC can trouble CSK's playoffs qualification hope?
The campaign of Delhi Capitals is all but over with no scope for progression in the playoffs round. The Capitals have lost eight out of 13 matches in the league stage and are currently placed at ninth position in the playoffs. However, DC can still play a spoilsport to MS Dhoni's CSK in their qualification path to the last-four stage.
A win for Capitals would mean that CSK will finish at 15 points, that is likely to be beneficial to other contenders like MI and RCB. In case CSK happens to lose then they must hope either LSG, MI and RCB lose their final league game.
