Why is Ishant Sharma not playing today’s DC vs CSK IPL 2023 match?

Delhi Capitals (DC) have suffered a blow ahead of their IPL 2023 match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Saturday, May 20, as veteran pacer Ishant Sharma has been ruled out of the contest.

DC and CSK are currently squaring off in the 67th match of IPL 2023 at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi this afternoon. Ishant Sharma came into the Delhi playing XI in the middle phase of this season after missing out on an earlier leg.

He has been a consistent performer, picking up 10 wickets across eight games and also successfully defending runs in the final over of a chase in close encounters.

Ishant is missing today's match due to a niggle. All-rounder Lalit Yadav replaced him in the playing XI for the match against CSK. Explaining the reason behind Ishant Sharma's absence, DC captain David Warner said:

"Lalit Yadav comes in and Ishant Sharma misses out because of a niggle."

CSK captain MS Dhoni won the toss and opted to bat first in the contest. The Super Kings went with an unchanged side while DC made a couple of changes to their side. Reflecting on their campaign in IPL 2023, Warner said:

"It's about consistency and adapting to your home conditions. We haven't been able to do that this season. We have to come out to play and today is all about spoiling the CSK party. Against this team, there are some matchups. For us, a couple of changes after coming from a fantastic wicket in Dharamsala. A bit different here."
