"Why these type of baseless rumors"- Mohammed Shami trashes reports of his injury, labels it 'fake news'
Star Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami has hit back at online media reports, which claimed that he has suffered a setback while recovering from injury. As per the reports, Shami suffered a swollen knee at the National Cricket Academy, which would need six to eight weeks for recovery.
The reports even claimed that this injury put a question mark over Shami's participation in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia Down Under. The news quickly went viral on the internet, and it reached Shami himself as well.
Shami decided to compile all screenshots of the report into one image and wrote on his X profile:
"Why these type of baseless rumors? I'm working hard and trying my level best to recover. Neither the BCCI nor me have mentioned that I am out of the Border Gavaskar series. I request the public to stop paying attention to such news from unofficial sources. Please stop and don’t spread such fake fake fake & fake news, especially without my statement."
It is pertinent to note that fake cricket news from unofficial sources have gone viral on many occasions on social media platforms. Just a few days ago, Rishabh Pant called out an X user for wrongly claiming that he wanted to join Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Will Mohammed Shami return to India's squad for Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25 series?
The Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25 series will begin on November 22 in Perth. It is an important series for India's qualification in the World Test Championship Final.
India have won their last two away series against Australia. The Indian team will be keen to complete a hat-trick, and Mohammed Shami could play a huge role in this series if he is fit. There is no official date for Shami's return, but his latest social media statement suggests that he could be ready in time for the big tour.
