Women's Big Bash League 2023 Points Table: Updated standings after Melbourne Renegades vs Sydney Thunder, Match 11

Sydney Thunder, on Thursday, October 26, defeated Melbourne Renegades by eight wickets in Match No.11 of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) at the iconic Sydney Cricket Ground.

With the win, the Thunder moved to second spot in the table with four points and a net run rate of +1.718 thanks to wins in both their matches thus far in the tournament.

The Renegades, led by Hayley Matthews, on the other hand, are placed fifth in the table with two points and a net run rate of +0.876 thanks to a victory in one out of three matches in the championship.


Sydney Thunder ease past Melbourne Renegades in WBBL match

After being put in to bat first, the Renegades scored 147 for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs. The Renegades struggled at one point in time after being reduced to 62 for four in 8.5 overs. From there on, Courtney Webb and Georgia Wareham took charge. The duo put on 78 runs for the fifth wicket off 9.5 overs.

Wareham was their star batter after she scored 47 runs off 34 balls with the help of seven fours. Webb put her head down to notch 31 runs before Hannah Darlington accounted for her wicket.

Marizanne Kapp, Chamari Athapaththu, Darlington and Ebony Hoskin picked up one wicket apiece for the Thunder. Samantha Bates could not take a wicket, but kept the batters in check with an economy rate of 6.80.

Thereafter, Athapaththu made sure that the Thunder chase the target down with 15 balls to spare. The southpaw won the Player of the Match after she scored 80 runs off 54 balls with 13 fours and two sixes.

She was also involved in a partnership of 99 runs off 11.2 overs for the opening wicket with Tahlia Wilson. Wareham was the pick of the Renegades’ bowler.
