WPL 2025 auction to take place on December 15 in Bengaluru: Reports
The Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025 player auction is likely to take place on December 15 in Bengaluru. Also, the third edition of the T20 tournament is set to get underway in the first week of February 2025.
Following the success of the Indian Premier League (IPL), BCCI began the WPL in 2023. Both editions of the Women's Premier League held so far have met with a promising response. While the retention list for WPL 2025 was announced by all five franchises on November 7, the mini-auction is set to take place next month.
As per a report in news agency IANS, while the names of Bengaluru and Goa were discussed as potential hosts for the WPL 2025 auction, the venue has been finalized by the BCCI. The report stated that the mini-auction ahead of the 2025 WPL season will take place in Bengaluru on December 15.
The deadline for player auction registration for Indian players has been set as December 4, 5 PM IST. All five franchises have been given a purse of ₹15 crore to build their squads for WPL 2025 - the budget was ₹13.5 crore per team during the previous auction.
How the 5 teams stack up ahead of the WPL 2025 auction
A total of 19 slots can be filled up by the five teams at the auction, with five slots being for overseas players. The base prices for capped players are ₹30 lakh, ₹40 lakh and ₹50 lakh. For uncapped players, ₹10 lakh and ₹20 lakh are the two base price categories. Gujarat Giants (GG) have four slots available, including two overseas slots. GG also has the highest purse remaining of ₹4.4 crore.
Looking at the other four franchises, defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will head into the auction with a purse of ₹3.25 crore. Further, UP Warriorz (UPW) have funds of ₹3.9 crores left, Delhi Capitals (DC) have a purse of ₹2.5 crores, while inaugural champions Mumbai Indians (MI) can spend ₹2.65 crores at the mini-auction.
The inaugural Women's Premier League season was held in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai in 2023, while the second season took place in Bengaluru and New Delhi earlier this year.
