Yash Dayal picked as India announce squad for 1st Test against Bangladesh

Uttar Pradesh and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) pacer Yash Dayal has been selected for Team India's first of the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh. The selectors named a 16-man squad for the first Test, which will start at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Thursday, September 19.

There are also a couple of returnees back in the set-up, with Rishabh Pant in line to play his first Test since his horrific car accident and Virat Kohli set to play in whites after a gap of eight months. Jasprit Bumrah, who last played for Team India in the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup, also comes back into the national team setup.

The Board of Cricket Control In India (BCCI) took to their official account on X on Sunday, September 8, to announce the same.

Squad for the first Test against Bangladesh: Rohit Sharma (C), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Sarfaraz Khan, Rishabh Pant (WK), Dhruv Jurel (WK), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammad Siraj, Akash Deep, Jasprit Bumrah and Yash Dayal

Yash Dayal is playing for India B in the ongoing 2024 Duleep Trophy

Yash Dayal is representing India B in the ongoing 2024 Duleep Trophy. He played the first game against India A at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru and picked up four wickets across two innings. With the bat, he managed to score 26 runs across two innings.

This is the second time Dayal has been called up for Team India. Back in 2022, he had been selected for a three-match ODI series against Bangladesh. Dayal didn't debut back then, with Kuldeep Sen and Deepak Chahar being preferred over him. He was later withdrawn from the ODI side.

Several experts have backed Dayal to be one of India's left-handed pacers for the tour of Australia later this year.
