"You earn credit and appreciation" - Manoj Tiwary after former cricketer cites MS Dhoni example during Gautam Gambhir feud
Former India cricketer Manoj Tiwary has responded to another ex cricketer's comments on asking for credit. Aakash Chopra, on his YouTube channel, cited the example of former Indian captain MS Dhoni. Chopra stated that Dhoni never demanded for credit.
His comments came on the back of the feud involving Manoj Tiwary and India's current head coach Gautam Gambhir. Manoj had earlier stated that Gambhir's PR ensured that he took all the credit for Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) success in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Manoj, in a video posted on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, responded to Chopra's comments, stating that one earns credit and appreciation.
"You (Chopra) also spoke about the credit thing where you gave the example of MS Dhoni that he does not demand credit. You earn credit and appreciation. I do not have any intention to go and take credit," he said (7:10).
Manoj Tiwary also clarified that he does not have any intention of demanding for credit, talking about his role in helping KKR win their first IPL title in 2012.
"There is no such intention to tell things that when KKR won the first title I did not get credit etc. I have made a lot of place in people's hearts and when we won the IPL for the first time there was a massive rally in Kolkata where people gave a lot of love," he added (7:38).
"People remember me helping KKR win the IPL more" - Manoj Tiwary on state of affairs in the current scenario
Manoj also spoke about the fact that people remember him more for his performance in the 2012 IPL final that helped KKR win the title.
"It is unfortunate that after making a hundred for the country, the innings that I played and won Man of the Match, people do not remember that a lot but remember me helping KKR win the IPL more. People know me more from that," he reflected.(7:58)
The former cricketer also highlighted the state of affairs in the current scenario, stating that people remember a player more by their performance in the IPL these days.
"It is unfortunate as the environment nowadays has became such that if you do well in IPL then people remember that more. It is not about taking credit. People who think Manoj Tiwary talks to the point and talks the right things with facts are there. I would continuously talk about things if I wanted credit," he said. (8:16)
