"You shake hands and then do your cartwheels and stuff" - Michael Vaughan slams RCB players for not shaking hands with MS Dhoni after win over CSK
Former England captain Michael Vaughan blasted the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) players for not shaking MS Dhoni's hands after their thrilling 27-run win over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Bengaluru on May 18. A video of Dhoni waiting to shake hands with the RCB players before trudging off went viral hours after the game ended.
Having pulled off a remarkable turnaround to qualify for the playoffs, the RCB players enjoyed extended celebrations before exchanging pleasantries with their CSK counterparts.
Here is a video of Dhoni waiting in line for a handshake before walking off the field:
Speaking to Cricbuzz after the game, Michael Vaughan was disappointed with the RCB players for not shaking hands with Dhoni, considering it may be his final IPL outing.
"If there was ever a time for a group of players to show awareness, we don't know, if that was MS Dhoni's last game and those players have run around the ground doing handstands when all they need to do is wait, 'the legend's over there. We have to just go and shake his hand," said Vaughan.
He added:
"You shake hands and then do your cartwheels and stuff. I wouldn't want to be an RCB player waking up tomorrow morning thinking MS Dhoni has just announced his retirement and we didn't have the decency to go and shake his hand first."
Coming to the game, RCB posted a massive 218/5 in 20 overs, leaving them 201 to defend for playoff qualification. A spirited performance saw RCB restrict CSK to 191/7 in their 20 overs, resulting in a 6th consecutive win for them.
The performance saw RCB miraculously qualify for the playoffs, while CSK were eliminated.
MS Dhoni was in terrific ball-striking form in IPL 2024
After handing over the CSK captaincy reigns to Ruturaj Gaikwad before the start of the IPL 2024 season, MS Dhoni batted with incredible freedom throughout CSK's campaign.
The 42-year-old batted at No.7 predominantly due to a struggle with his knee, scoring 161 runs at a strike rate of over 220 in 14 games. Dhoni smashed 14 boundaries and 13 maximums while being dismissed only 3 times in 13 innings.
With the Mega Auction set to happen later this year, Dhoni's future in the IPL hangs in the balance.
The legendary finisher almost pulled off another one of his heroic acts in the RCB clash, scoring a 13-ball 25 before falling with CSK needing 11 off 5 deliveries.
