"You've done it all in true Warner style" - Yuvraj Singh posts heartwarming message as Aussie opener retires from international cricket
Former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh shared a heartwarming message for Australian opener David Warner, who retired from international cricket on Tuesday, June 25. The Victorian is one of the most loved overseas cricketers in India.
Warner had an unceremonious exit from international cricket after Australia crashed out of the T20 World Cup 2024 following Afghanistan's victory over Bangladesh in the final Super 8 clash. The left-handed batter had previously retired from Tests and ODIs.
Several former cricketers took to social media to wish Warner on his retirement. Yuvraj also joined the bandwagon in wishing the celebrated cricketer a happy retirement.
Taking to X, Yuvraj wrote:
"No one likes a quiet goodbye, but that’s the game of life mate. Well done on an incredible career @davidwarner31! From smashing boundaries on the park to nailing Bollywood moves and dialogues, you’ve done it all in true #Warner style."
"A feared batsman, a lively teammate and a true entertainer on and off the field," he continued. "It was a pleasure sharing the dressing room with you buddy. Go well #legend and enjoy your well-deserved time off with the lovely family."
Yuvraj and Warner shared the dressing room when they were part of the SunRisers Hyderabad squad in IPL 2016. Under the Australian's leadership, the SunRisers lifted the trophy by beating the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the final.
How did David Warner fare in the T20 World Cup 2024?
The Aussie opener had a decent T20 World Cup campaign, aggregating 178 runs in seven matches at an average of 29.66 and a strike rate of almost 140. He also struck two half-centuries and formed a good opening pair with Travis Head.
Warner finished as the 10th leading scorer in the tournament after the Super 8 stage and Australia's second-highest run-getter after Head (255).
