"Your apology should be as loud as your disrespect was" - Social media reacts to KL Rahul's knock in 2nd innings of BGT 2024-25 1st Test

Team India's opening batter KL Rahul silenced his critics with a resilient half-century in the side's second innings of the ongoing Test series opener against Australia in Perth. The 32-year-old showcased tremendous composure, helping his side attain a commanding position.

Rahul was not India's first-choice opening batter for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) series. He was promoted to the spot for the Perth Test, with skipper Rohit Sharma unavailable because of his paternity leave.

The visitors came to bat in the second innings with a 46-run lead. Rahul and his opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal did a commendable job, frustrating the bowlers with a marathon 201-run stand.

Rahul finished with 77 runs from 176 deliveries. The senior player received widespread praise on social media for his batting exploits. Here are some of the top reactions:

"Your apology should be as loud as your disrespect was. Take a moment and appreciate KL Rahul for such a calm and composed innings in difficult conditions," remarked a fan.

Several former cricketers were also mighty impressed by Rahul's fantastic knock and lauded the batter for his performance.

"His record as an opener overseas speaks for itself. On a challenging surface against a quality attack he looked assured in both innings. Well played KL," wrote Wasim Jaffer on X.
"Well played Sankatmochan @klrahul," commented Irfan Pathan.

It is worth mentioning that KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal became the first Indian batters to form a 200-run opening partnership in Australia in Test cricket. While Rahul departed after a well-made 77, Jaiswal went on to score a daddy hundred, finishing with 161.

"The one who never gives up" - KL Rahul's wife Athiya Shetty reacts to the batter's knock in Perth Test

KL Rahul's wife Athiya Shetty shared an Instagram story to react to the opening batter's brilliant knock in India's second innings of the Perth Test. She mentioned that Rahul is someone who doesn't give up or back down from any challenge, writing:

The one who never gives up, never backs down."

Rahul was under a lot of pressure coming into the BGT 2024-25. He lost his place in the Indian XI after registering scores of 0 and 12 in the Test series opener against New Zealand at home. The star batter made an impressive comeback, rising to the occasion in the crucial Perth Test.
