“Your time soon coming”- Ravi Shastri shares birthday message for Virat Kohli
Former Indian player, coach, and current broadcaster Ravi Shastri took to social media on Tuesday, November 5, to wish star batter Virat Kohli on his 36th birthday. Shastri and Kohli share a strong bond, having led India to several historic victories.
Meanwhile, Kohli has come under scrutiny after struggling in the recent Test series against Bangladesh and New Zealand. As the Delhi-born cricketer celebrated his birthday on Tuesday, Shastri expressed confidence that Kohli's time to excel will come soon.
Shastri wrote on X:
“Many happy returns of the day champ. Have a good one. Your time soon coming. God bless.”
The 62-year-old served as the director of the Indian cricket team for eight months, from India's tour of England until the 2015 World Cup. He later became the head coach in 2017 and held the position until 2021.
The Shastri-Kohli partnership proved highly successful for Indian cricket, driven by their aggressive mindset. Under their leadership, India won the 2018-19 Border-Gavaskar Trophy and reached the final of the World Test Championship.
Virat Kohli to return to action in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy
The 36-year-old will return to action when India take on Australia in a five-match Test series, beginning November 22 in Perth. To secure a spot in the World Test Championship final on their own, India must win the series 4-0.
For India to succeed, they will hope Kohli finds his form and has a standout series. The ace batter has an excellent record against Australia, scoring 2,042 runs in 25 Tests at an average of 47.48, with five fifties and eight centuries.
In Australia, his record is even more impressive, amassing 1,352 runs in 13 Tests at an average of 54.08, including four fifties and six centuries.
Meanwhile, in the recently concluded series against New Zealand, Kohli became just the fourth Indian to surpass 9,000 Test runs.
