"Zinta's team won kya ?" - Salman Khan's old tweet resurfaces after Saint Lucia Kings' CPL 2024 triumph
Saint Lucia Kings clinched their maiden Caribbean Premier League (CPL) title by beating Guyana Amazon Warriors in the final of the 2024 edition at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on Sunday, October 6. The Saint Lucia Kings are co-owned by popular Bollywood actress Preity Zinta.
Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Punjab Kings (PBKS) acquired CPL's Saint Lucia team and rechristened it as Saint Lucia Kings. Following their first-ever title-winning campaign, Bollywood superstar Salman Khan's old tweet resurfaced on social media in which he inquired if Preity Zinta's team won or not.
Salman's original tweet came after the IPL 2014 final between PBKS and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). He wrote:
"Zinta's team won kya ?"
It is worth mentioning that PBKS suffered a three-wicket defeat to KKR in the IPL 2014 final. It remains the Punjab-based team's solitary IPL final appearance so far.
Aaron Jones and Roston Chase shone with the bat for Saint Lucia Kings in CPL 2024 final
Saint Lucia Kings skipper Faf du Plessis won the toss and decided to field first in the CPL 2024 final against Guyana Amazon Warriors. Guyana failed to get going with the bat, registering 138/8 after 20 overs.
Left-arm spinner Noor Ahmad was the pick of the bowlers for Saint Lucia, recording impressive figures of 4-0-19-3. Dwaine Pretorius's 25-run cameo towards the back end helped Guyana reach a respectable total.
In reply, Saint Lucia were off to a shaky start, losing opening batter Johnson Charles early. Du Plessis scored a run-a-ball 21 as the remaining top-order batters also failed to contribute significantly.
Aaron Jones and Roston Chase turned things around for their team, remaining unbeaten on 48 and 39, respectively. They forged a crucial unbeaten 88-run partnership for the fifth wicket, helping Saint Lucia chase the target in 18.1 overs.
Chase was adjudged the Player of the Final, while Ahmad was named the Player of the Tournament for bagging 22 wickets across 12 outings.
