No Chris Gayle, Lendl Simmons in West Indies limited-overs squad for the series against Pakistan

Chris Gayle won't feature in both the T20I and ODI series

The West Indies will be missing two of their biggest stars when they take to the field in their ODI and T20I series against Pakistan in the UAE later this month, with talismanic left-hander Chris Gayle and right-hander Lendl Simmons both not featuring in either squad.

The 36-year-old Gayle had informed the selectors to not consider him for the tour while Simmons will miss the series because of medical reasons.

Following their good performances in the Caribbean Premier League, Rovman Powell and Nicolas Pooran found maiden berths into the senior squad for the T20I series and Chadwick Walton earned himself a comeback into shortest format of the game after a gap of two years.

Jerome Taylor, who didn’t feature in the short series against India last month, is also back in the T20I squad, but didn’t find a name in the ODI squad.

The ODI squad has a few interesting names with Test opener Kraigg Brathwaite earning himself a maiden call-up along with promising young quick Alzarri Joseph. Left-handed opener Ewin Lewis, who hit a hundred against India in the first T20I at Florida last month also found his name in the 50-over squad.

Two-time T20 World Cup-winning skipper Darren Sammy once again didn't find a mention in either squad. Carlos Brathwaite will lead the men from the Caribbean in the T20Is while Jason Holder will lead the side in the 50 over format.

The tour commences with three T20Is on September 20th,23rd and 27th, followed by three ODIs on September 30th, October 2nd and 5th. A three-match Test series is also scheduled and the squad for that will be announced later.
